Beginner's Guide to Blogging

Step 1: Find your blogging niche Step 2: Find and sign up with a website host Step 3: Create an account with Google Analytics Step 4: Design your blog Step 5: Write your first blog post Step 6: Share your blog with friends and family! Here’s everything you need to know about blogging in six easy steps!
Step 1: Decide what your blog will be about
Before you get started with blogging, you need to decide what your new site will be about. It’s important that you choose a topic that excites you and motivates you because if it isn’t something that interests you, it’s going to be hard for anyone else to share in your enthusiasm. If it helps, try keeping a journal and writing down all of your ideas for potential posts. Once you have an idea in mind, think about how your post could be received by readers or followers—make sure there is enough interest in the subject matter. If there isn’t enough interest, look for another topic.
Step 2: Choose your blogging platform
You have several options when it comes to choosing a blogging platform. Some of them require advanced technical skills and training, while others are user-friendly and easy enough for anyone to use. If you’re looking for an easy step into blogging, WordPress is hard to beat in terms of usability—you can build a site from scratch in less than an hour with little more than basic HTML knowledge. Other platforms such as Tumblr or Ghost work well for specific niches, but you’ll want something more general-purpose if you’re just starting out. We recommend giving WordPress a try first; it might become your permanent home online.
Step 3: Create your account
There are many ways to create a free WordPress account, including installing WordPress on your web hosting. Go through all of your options, keep in mind your niche, then pick and choose from those services. Creating an account is easy! Click here for more information! Then write down each step you took while setting up your account; that way, when someone asks you how to create their own account (or website), you’ll be able to list out each simple step in a concise way. You can also take pictures with your smartphone at each stage, which will really help as long as they’re well-lit and visible!
Step 4: Write your first blog post
Writing your first post is a huge deal, but it’s an incredibly easy step. Once you’ve got all of your content planned out, it’s time to start drafting your first post. If you haven’t done so already, set up a Google account and choose a unique user name for yourself. Once that’s done, all you need to do is set up a simple WordPress account and start writing! With just one or two hours of work per week, you could have something big on your hands—or screen—in no time!
Step 5: Think about SEO
SEO stands for search engine optimization. It is how you use keywords on your site and in your content so that when people search for a keyword related to your business, product or service, they find your site. The more SEO you have on your site, specifically high-quality backlinks (links from other popular sites), means that more people will find you when they search for relevant terms related to what you do. For blogging beginners, it might seem overwhelming at first but with a little research and focus you can make sure that no matter who is looking for something specific on Google, they’ll be led right back to your posts and won’t even realize how much work was done behind-the-scenes.
Step 6: Promote your blog posts
Once you’ve published your post, it’s time to start promoting it. If you want people to visit your site and read your content, you need to make sure they know about it. Use social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Check in with them regularly so they can see what you’re writing about and possibly share with their friends and followers. You should also add a Subscribe via Email option on your website so people can have new posts delivered straight to their inboxes automatically. Make sure that in your social media profiles (which we'll discuss next) that there is a link back up top where people can find out more about who you are and what kind of content you write.
