What is blogging?

I had to explain what blogging was, even though I thought it was pretty obvious and that everyone knew. At first, people gave me funny looks (one person made a sound as if they'd just eaten something sour), but then they nodded in understanding. So I decided to write an introductory post on what is blogging and how it works. What is Affiliate Marketing?: Everyone understands what affiliate marketing is; why did no one know about blogging before?!

What is affiliate marketing?

Affiliate marketing is a way for you to earn commissions by promoting products on your website. The two most common ways to do affiliate marketing are through recommending physical goods or using CPA (cost per action) offers. There are many different commission structures and different types of offers, but that's beyond what we can get into here. For now, just know that if you start a blog and begin writing about affiliate marketing or promoting certain offers, you can potentially earn some serious cash doing it! If you have any specific questions about why I love it so much, let me know in the comments below!

Finding Affiliate Programs

Affiliate programs let you make money by promoting another company's products. For example, an online retailer might pay you a commission when you send a customer to their site, and they make a purchase. Note that there are two distinct roles here: affiliate and publisher. An affiliate is someone who pays to place ads on your site; a publisher is someone who gets born based on performance. Publishers tend to be more passive and less hands-on than affiliates, but both are considered bloggers in our book.

Guest Blogging Examples

As I was saying, there are many great places to guest post! Here are three examples: The Penny Hoarder is a go-to site for financial tips and even paid blogging opportunities. So instead of writing content for your own site, you can report it here and reach an entirely new audience. If you're interested in marketing to other bloggers, check out Digital Influence for some excellent opportunities. Finally, if you have expertise in any niche or industry (like making money), I would check out Pro blogger. This website has been around forever, and they've created fantastic training modules on how to become a better blogger—and even how to find awesome guest blogging gigs that will help grow your online presence and credibility.

Summary – How to Blog as an Affiliate Marketer

Writing a few pieces of content for your website or other websites will help establish your authority in your niche and allow you to start generating some referral traffic from search engines. However, be careful not to abuse affiliate links. Google has been cracking down on affiliate marketers using spammy tactics to get people onto their sites. So if your sole purpose is to drive visitors to an affiliate offer, you're doing it wrong. Build trust first and foremost with great content (and maybe a giveaway or two) before promoting anything!
